Finding FOCIS: A Framework for Examining Lessons and Learning Activities
November 8, 2014
Engaging students through learning activities is a critical part of effective teaching. The type of learning activities a teacher chooses to use may have a powerful impact on their students engagement with a particular lesson. Students may have strong preferences for some types of learning activities as well as strong disinclination for other types of activities. The aim of this professional development session was to provide teachers with a framework to analyze and to better understand their students’ preferences for various types of learning activities. In addition, this workshop will help each teacher develop an understanding of their own preferences for the learning activities that they choose for their lessons . This session was to provide a tool for gathering information about students’ learning activity preferences and a framework to analyze and interpret this information as an aid to lesson plan development. Participants had the opportunity to share their ideas with other participants
